TSI petrol engine
Featuring direct-injection and a turbocharger for peak performance, Volkswagen’s TSI technology gives the Scirocco R incredible power delivery from low revs, while offering reductions in fuel consumption and emissions thanks to its highly efficient direct-injection system.
Transmissions
Available with a 6-speed manual as standard or optional 6-speed DSG transmission, the Scirocco R offers the best of both worlds depending on your driving preference. If your preference is for our innovative DSG transmission, enjoy gear changes that are controlled electronically where the next gear is already pre-selected and awaiting power to be transferred thanks to our dual clutch system. The result is a gear change that takes only 3-4 hundredths of a second meaning virtually no interruption to power delivery, traction or acceleration, as well as the additional flexibility of being fully automatic or controlled by the driver. And because it ensures optimum power delivery, DSG provides excellent fuel consumption.
Adaptive Chassis Control
Volkswagen’s Adaptive Chassis Control system monitors and adjusts the Scirocco R’s handling to match the road conditions, the driving situation and the driver’s requirements. With three damper settings – normal, comfort and sport – easily selected with a button on the centre console the optimum ride is always available. The sport setting also adjusts the weight of the steering, giving you more feeling and control on the road ahead.
Extended Electronic Differential Lock (XDL)
An extension of Volkswagen’s Electronic Differential Lock system, the Scirocco R’s XDL reacts to load relief at the front inside wheel when cornering hard. It applies pressure from the ESP hydraulics to the wheel to prevent traction loss or slippage, improving grip and reducing understeer. Which means you can tackle corners with more confidence and safety.
Safety
Utilising the latest in Volkswagen safety technology the Scirocco R features a range of active and passive safety systems to both prevent and protect the driver and passengers in the case of an accident. Helping you maintain control in difficult driving situations and designed to prevent accidents from happening, our active safety systems include Traction Control (Electronic Differential Lock¬ – EDL, Anti-Slip Regulation – ASR, and Electronic Stabilisation Program – ESP) and Braking Control (Brake Assist, ABS and Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution – EBD). Protecting occupants from injury and reducing the impact of collisions, our passive safety systems include six airbags as standard, twin front, front side and full length curtain, reducing the risk of sever head and chest injuries in collisions. The Scirocco R also features safety optimised front head restraints, seat belts – front seats with belt pre-tensioners and belt force limiters. Scirocco R also features Hill Start Assist (HSA) which holds the car in place for 1.5 seconds on hills with an incline greater than 5% to allow for a smooth hill start and avoid dangerous roll backs.
