"Anyone can cut the roof off a car", or so our engineers and designers told us. "If it's going to be better, we have to make it ultra-simple to use (push button, hydraulic operation to raise or lower in just 13 seconds) and as effective as a fixed roof when up (three-layered, all-weather insulated cloth, scratch-resistant, glass rear window with in-built demister and high-quality door and roof seals)". Guess they proved their point.

The New Beetle Cabriolet is fitted with a rigid safety shell, impact protection, driver and passenger front and front side/head airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD), front seat belts with pre-tensioners and force limiters. But our engineers didn't stop there - they also figured a convertible needs total roll-over protection, so they reinforced the windscreen frame and engineered an advanced roll-over system with in-built sensors that instantly detect a roll-over situation and fire two rear head restraints in just 0.25 of a second for the ultimate in safety and protection.

The Cabriolet is powered by a 2.0 litre petrol engine delivering 85kW of power and a cool 172Nm of torque teamed with either the precise 5-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic transmission.
